MY CAT IS AN ALIEN

MY CAT IS AN ALIEN (MCIAA) are the outsider duo of experimental instantaneous composers, performers and visual artists formed by brothers Maurizio and Roberto Opalio in 1998. They live and work between Turin (Italy) and a secret location in the Western Alps. Multi-instrumentalists, they shape their sound with self-made string instruments and modified electronic devices—“alientronics”—alongside Roberto ’s distinctive vocalizations. MCIAA’s massive and highly innovative body of work counts collaborations with vanguards including Christian Marclay, Keiji Haino, Z’ev, Lee Ranaldo and Thurston Moore, about 200 records and art editions, the cover of The Wire, international festivals, and a 3-day opening performance at the 2017 Venice Art Biennale. In 2019 MCIAA began their third decade of activity launching ‘Spiritual Noise’ record series through their new intermedia Antigravitational imprint.
